Doorway to the UK

Tell us something about LMU?

LMU is situated at the centre of London. It has 40,000 students on its rolls, which does take into account those studying in its ''affiliated'' colleges, as you have in India.
In the UK, we have two systems of rankings - of ''teaching'' and ''research'', where we are among the best in teaching, especially in business studies. We offer a diverse range of programmes from business, economics, law, IT, electronics, art and archaeology, polymer engineering, to name a few. Presently, we have partnerships with institutions in 17 countries and have students coming in from 150 countries around the world.

What is the strength of international students at your campus? How many are there from India?

We have almost 7,000 foreign students studying at our campus and this number is increasing by 12 per cent annually. Right now, we have 250 Indian students and this number is growing by 20 per cent every year.

Can you throw light on your most popular courses? What are the eligibility criteria for them?

The BBA and MBA courses are quite popular among Indian students. Then animation and wireless communication are quite popular as well. In the UK, admission into an MBA programme can be taken only after you have done your graduation and have gained at least two year''s work experience. For admission to the undergraduate programmes, a candidate has to appear for a test called UCAS. Besides, we test the candidate''s proficiency in English skills and judge his or her personality- whether he or she will be able to adjust in the UK. Generally, we look at candidates, who have scored 70 per cent or more at the 10+2 level, however, there are exceptions to the rule. In the context of Indian students, we do not look at a candidate''s IELTS scores.

How can an Indian student seek admission to LMU?

We take in students, two times in a year. The deadline for these admissions expires in August and December. We have offices in Chennai and Delhi. We admit students through these offices. Interested students can contact these offices. Here, they will get all guidance and assistance in getting admission; help in getting a visa and all necessary information about living and studying at LMU.

What does the total cost of living and studying at LMU come to?

On an average, a student from India will have to shell out Rs 6 lakh for study and an additional Rs 4 lakh for living costs. The good thing however is that students can easily find part-time employment in Britain which helps them not only to gain in confidence but to get work exposure. Additionally, they can recover almost half the expenses - upto Rs 5 lakh, through their part-time earnings.

What are your plans for the future?

We are open to the idea of partnering with an Indian institution of repute, but this will depend upon firstly, satisfying ourselves with the quality of teaching and other factors. We are open to the idea of setting up a campus in India as well.

www.londonmet.ac.uk
